It’s worth noting that to achieve genuine surround envelopment you have to position speakers around the room, so you’ll probably need a degree of buy-in from other members of the house. An AVR or audio/video receiver is a surround sound processor integrated with a multi-channel amplifier, and is able to decode various audio formats. What is an AV receiver?
